Fellow's Asana integration is a user-level integration that helps you streamline task management between the two platforms. It's especially useful for roles that involve a lot of task tracking, think Marketing teams, Product Managers, Project Managers, and anyone else who lives between meetings and a project board.
Once connected, action items assigned to you in Fellow can automatically create identical tasks in Asana. As you mark items complete in either platform, the status updates in both. Changes to task names, due dates, and completion status are all synced bidirectionally. There are two ways to use the integration:
You can push individual action items to Asana one at a time, or
Link an entire meeting series to a specific Asana project so everything syncs automatically.
Note: The Asana integration is a Team plan (and above) feature. It is set up at the user level, meaning every team member who wants to use it will need to connect their own Asana account individually.
Connect your Asana account
Before syncing any action items, you'll need to connect your Asana account in your Fellow user settings. This is a one-time setup per user.
Go to User Settings > Apps & Integrations and click on the Asana card.
You'll land on a page explaining the integration. Click the connect button in the upper right-hand corner from actions.
You'll be prompted to log in to your Asana account. Enter your credentials and authorize the connection.
Once the login is complete, you'll see a confirmation notification that the connection was successful.
Select the Asana project where you'd like your action items to appear by default.
Optionally, toggle on Sync pre-existing action items if you'd like to push any incomplete items you already have in Fellow over to Asana. Note that Fellow may take a few minutes to complete this initial sync.
Tip: You can change your linked Asana project at any time by revisiting User Settings > Apps & Integrations > Asana.
Sync individual action items to Asana
If you'd prefer to be selective about which action items go to Asana, you can push them over one at a time directly from any Fellow note. This is useful when you're covering multiple topics in a meeting and only certain tasks belong in a specific Asana project.
Create an action item in any Fellow note.
Click the three-dot menu (⋮) at the end of the action item line and select link to Asana.
Select the workspace and project where you'd like to send the action item, then click the link to Asana.
Once linked, you'll see an indicator on the action item confirming it has been synced. The task will appear in your selected Asana project as expected.
Unlink an action item from Asana
You can remove the connection between a Fellow action item and its Asana task at any time.
Click the three-dot menu (⋮) at the end of the linked action item and select unlink from Asana.
A confirmation message will appear. Click unlink to confirm.
Link a note series to an Asana project
If you're meeting regularly about a specific project, you can connect an entire note series to a corresponding Asana project. Once set up, any action item created in that note series will automatically create an identical task in Asana. Checking the item off in either platform will mark it complete in both, it's a full two-way sync.
Open any note in the series you want to configure. Click the vertical three-dot menu and select settings from the dropdown.
In the settings side panel, select Integrations, then choose Asana.
Select your workspace and project.
Choose whether you'd like to:
Sync all current incomplete action items and all new ones going forward, or
Only sync action items created from this point forward.
Save your settings. The note series is now linked to that Asana project
Tip: Once connected, you can see who originally set up the series-level integration by revisiting the note series settings. You can also change or remove the linked project at any time from the same place.
How series settings interact with your account settings
It helps to understand how the two levels of the integration work together. When you first connect Asana in your user settings, you choose a default project for all your action items. Here's how that default interacts with any note series-specific settings you configure:
If a note series has no specific Asana project linked, action items from that series will sync to the default project you selected during account setup.
If a note series does have a specific project linked, that series-level setting takes priority and overrides your account-wide default for action items created in that series.
This means you can set a sensible default at the account level, then point individual meeting series to different projects as needed without changing your overall settings each time.
Change or disconnect the integration
You can update or remove your Asana connection at any time from User Settings > Apps & Integrations > Asana.
To change your default Asana project, select a new project from the integration page. This won't affect any note series-level settings you've configured separately.
To disconnect the integration entirely, click the Disconnect button in the upper right-hand corner of the integration page. Existing tasks already in Asana will not be affected, but action items will no longer sync going forward.
