The Jira integration allows you to bridge your Fellow meeting workflows with your existing Jira project management. Use Fellow for high-level planning in 1-on-1s and team meetings, while managing granular tasks directly in Jira with two-way sync keeping everything aligned.
What the Jira Integration Can Do
Create new Jira issues directly from action items in Fellow
Import existing Jira issues as linked action items in any note series
Two-way sync issue titles, assignees, and due dates between Fellow and Jira
Automatically transition Jira issues when a linked action item is completed in Fellow
How to Install the Jira Integration
First off - you must be an administrator on both Fellow and Jira to install and configure the integration.
There are two ways to set up the Jira integration for your workspace. Choose whichever option works best for you.
Option 1: Connect from Fellow
As a Fellow workspace admin, go to Workspace Settings > Integrations and select the Jira integration.
Click Install from Atlassian Marketplace.
On the Atlassian Marketplace page, select Get it now and follow the prompts to complete the setup.
Option 2: Connect from Jira
Logged in as a Jira admin, click the Settings icon in the top right corner and select Apps from the dropdown.
In Discover apps and integrations, search for Fellow.
Click Get app and confirm with Get it now.
Once Fellow is successfully added, follow the prompts to connect your Fellow workspace.
Configuring Integration Settings
Once the integration is installed, you can configure how Fellow interacts with your Jira projects from the settings tab.
Adding a Jira project to Fellow
From the Settings tab in Fellow, add your Jira project to enable the integration. Once added, you’ll be able to toggle additional per-project settings to control what information flows between Fellow and Jira.
Two-way sync
When two-way sync is enabled for a project, any changes to an action item’s text, due date, or assignee in Fellow will automatically update the linked Jira issue — and vice versa. When disabled, changes will not propagate beyond the point at which the issue was linked.
Note: Fellow syncs assignees by email address. If the Fellow assignee doesn’t exist as a Jira user, or if the Jira assignee doesn’t have access to the Fellow note series, the assignee will not sync.
Push status and status mapping
When Push status is enabled, checking off an action item in Fellow will automatically change the status of that item in Jira. You can map Fellow’s action item statuses to your Jira project statuses to control exactly what the status changes to. When Push status is off, completing an item in Fellow has no effect on the Jira issue.
Importing a Jira Issue into Fellow
You can pull any existing Jira issue directly into a Fellow note as a linked action item.
In a Fellow note, type / to open the slash command menu
Select the Jira option from the list.
Search for and select the issue you’d like to import. The issue will appear in your note with its current status (e.g., Done, In-Progress, Backlog).
If two-way sync is enabled for the project, any status updates made in Fellow will reflect back in Jira, and vice versa.
Creating a New Jira Issue from Fellow
If you have an action item in Fellow that needs a corresponding Jira ticket, you can create one without leaving Fellow.
In your Fellow note, type out the action item as you normally would.
In a Fellow note, type / to open the slash command menu or click on the three dot menu (⋮)
Select Link to Jira from the options.
In the modal that appears, select Create new issue. Choose your project, select an issue type, and edit the title if needed.
To unlink an action item from Jira at any time, open the same three-dot menu and select Unlink from Jira.
