How do I edit my information (name, job title, manager, etc.)?

Update your profile to keep your Fellow workspace accurate

Keeping your profile information current helps teammates find you, ensures proper org chart relationships, and makes Fellow more useful for everyone. You can update your name, job title, department, manager, profile picture, and timezone at any time from your User Settings. Changes save automatically and update across your entire workspace.

What You Can Edit

Your Fellow profile includes several fields you can customize:

Personal information:

  • Name (first and last)

  • Job title

  • Department

  • Profile picture

Work relationships:

  • Manager

  • Direct reports

Preferences:

  • Timezone

Note: If your workspace uses Google Workspace Sync or Microsoft 365 Sync, some fields like name, job title, and manager may be automatically updated from your directory and could be overridden during nightly syncs.

How to Edit Your Profile Information

Step 1: Open user settings

  1. Click on your profile icon in the bottom left corner of Fellow

  2. Select User Settings from the menu

  3. The User Settings window opens automatically to the Profile tab, where you can edit all your personal information.

  4. Update your information such as:

    1. First and/or last name

    2. Your job title

    3. Department

    4. Manager (This establishes reporting relationships for 1-on-1s and org charts)

    5. Profile picture

    6. Direct reports (This establishes reporting relationships for 1-on-1s and org charts)

  5. Changes save automatically! You don't need to click a save button - just close the User Settings window when you're done.

Admin vs User Permissions

What you can edit as a user:

  • Your own name, job title, department, profile picture, and timezone

  • Your manager selection (in most workspaces)

What only admins can edit:

  • Other users' profile information

  • Bulk user updates via CSV import

  • Organizational structure across the workspace

If you need to update information you don't have permission to change, contact your workspace administrator.

When Profile Information Syncs Automatically

If your workspace has Google Workspace Sync or Microsoft 365 Sync enabled, certain profile fields are automatically updated nightly from your organization's directory:

Fields that may be synced:

  • Name

  • Job title

  • Department

  • Manager relationships

What this means:

  • Manual changes to synced fields may be overwritten during the nightly sync

  • Contact your workspace admin if you need to update synced information

  • Profile picture and timezone are NOT synced and can always be updated manually

Troubleshooting

Can't edit certain fields

Cause: Your workspace has Google Workspace Sync or Microsoft 365 Sync enabled, and those fields are managed by your IT team.

Solution: Contact your workspace administrator or IT team to update information in your organization's directory (Google Workspace or Microsoft 365). Changes will sync to Fellow automatically during the nightly sync.

Changes aren't saving

Possible causes:

  • Network connection issue

  • Browser cache preventing updates

  • Permissions restriction

Solutions:

  1. Check your internet connection

  2. Refresh the page and try again

  3. Try in an incognito/private browser window

  4. Contact Fellow Support if the issue persists

Profile picture won't upload

Possible causes:

  • File size is too large

  • Image format isn't supported

  • Network connection issue

Solutions:

  1. Ensure image is JPG, PNG, or GIF format

  2. Resize image if file size exceeds 5MB

  3. Try a different image file

  4. Check your internet connection

Manager dropdown is empty

Possible causes:

  • No other users in the workspace yet

  • Workspace sync hasn't completed

  • You don't have permission to set your manager

Solutions:

  1. Wait for your workspace admin to add more users

  2. Contact your admin to set your manager relationship

  3. If using Google Workspace/M365 sync, manager relationships sync automatically from your directory

Changes revert after saving

Cause: Your workspace has Google Workspace Sync or Microsoft 365 Sync enabled, and the nightly sync is overwriting your manual changes with data from your organization's directory.

Solution: Update your information in your organization's directory (Google Workspace or Microsoft 365) instead. Changes will sync to Fellow automatically.
