Google Workspace Sync

Automate user provisioning from your Google Workspace

Note: This is an Enterprise plan feature. Both a Fellow admin and a Google Workspace admin are required to set this up.

Google Workspace Sync automates the tedious work of inviting users, managing access, and maintaining managerial relationships in Fellow. Instead of manually sending invites and updating org charts, you can connect Fellow to your Google Workspace directory and let the system handle it automatically. Users are invited, removed, and updated with their managerial relationships every night, ensuring your Fellow workspace always reflects your organization's current structure.

How to Set Up Google Workspace Sync

Setting up Google Workspace Sync requires both a Fellow admin and a Google Workspace admin working together. Here's the complete process:

Step 1: Navigate to workspace integrations

  1. Go to Workspace Settings

  2. Click on Integrations

Step 2: Access Google Workspace sync settings

  1. Navigate to the User Sync section

  2. Click on the box for Google Workspace

Step 3: Open sync settings

  1. Click on the Settings tab

Step 4: Install Fellow to Google Workspace

  1. Click on the link to start the install process

  2. This will open the Google Workspace Marketplace

Step 5: Complete installation in Google Workspace Marketplace

  1. In the Google Workspace Marketplace, click Install

  2. Follow the prompts to complete installation

  3. Accept the requested permissions when prompted

Step 6: Confirm installation

  1. Back in Fellow, confirm that you've installed Fellow

  2. Click Proceed to next step

Step 7: Choose which users to sync

Select one of two options based on your needs:

Option 1: Sync all users

  • Syncs every user in your Google Workspace directory into Fellow

  • Best if your entire organization will use Fellow

Option 2: Sync users based on organizational unit

  • Only syncs users from specified organizational units

  • Enter the organizational unit path(s) separated by commas

  • Format: /parent/child (e.g., /contractors/support, /full-time/engineering/product)

  • Best for phased rollouts or specific departments

Step 8: Configure managerial relationships (optional)

  1. Decide whether to sync managerial relationships from Google Workspace

  2. Toggle Sync managerial relationships on or off based on your preference

Note: Syncing managerial relationships only imports the reporting structure for users who are already being synced. It does NOT automatically provision accounts for managers if they're not included in your selected organizational units.

Step 9: Confirm and start sync

  1. Click Confirm sync

  2. The initial sync will begin immediately

The sync will provision users and send invitation emails.

Understanding Billing Impact

When you set up Google Workspace Sync, Fellow automatically creates accounts for synced users and sends them invitation emails. These new users immediately count toward your workspace's total user count for billing purposes.

Important considerations:

  • New synced users are added to your bill immediately

  • Users count whether or not they've accepted their invitations

  • Review your selected organizational units carefully before confirming to ensure you're only provisioning users who will actively use Fellow

  • For billing details, see How is my bill calculated?
