The feedback feature in Fellow makes it easy for your team to give, request, and exchange feedback about a person, a meeting, or a project. All feedback is collected in one centralized inbox where you can track requests, responses, and manage your feedback workflow.

Note: This is a legacy feature and no longer available for purchase.

Types of Feedback in Fellow

Fellow supports three main types of feedback:

  • One-off feedback: Ask for or give feedback about a person or thing (such as a project) - Enterprise Plan feature

  • Meeting feedback: Get a quick pulse check on how a meeting is going and what could be improved - Team Plan feature

  • 360 feedback: Gather comprehensive feedback about a direct report from their manager, themselves, their direct reports, and their peers - Enterprise Plan feature

The Feedback Inbox

All your feedback is located in the main feedback inbox. Access it via the more menu > feedback.

Inbox organization

The feedback inbox works like an email inbox with different categories:

  • Main inbox: Default view showing all feedback

  • Needs action: Feedback requests requiring your response

  • Requests sent: Feedback you've requested from others

  • Feedback sent: Feedback you've given to others

  • Drafts: Unfinished feedback requests

  • Archived: Completed or archived feedback

Filter feedback

You can apply filters to find specific feedback by:

  • Feedback type (360, meeting, one-off)

  • Who the feedback is about

  • Who the feedback is from

Feedback cards

Feedback appears in two views:

Condensed view displays:

  • Delivery method (who wants feedback, who has responded, who has shared feedback)

  • Icon and topic

  • Any labels

Expanded view shows the full content including:

  • Context: Who and what the feedback is about, who is asked for feedback, and who can see the responses

  • Title: An overview of what the feedback is about

  • Feedback or Questions: The main content of the feedback

Give Feedback

You can give someone feedback at any time without being prompted.

Steps to give feedback

  1. Click the more icon on the left navigation bar to open your feedback inbox

  2. Click the + button at the top

  3. Select Give feedback

  4. Complete the feedback card with four key sections:

    • The Context: The who, what, and why of the feedback

    • The Recipients: Who you're giving feedback to (you can share with their manager so both the person and their manager can see the feedback)

    • The Subject: What the feedback is about

    • The feedback itself: Your actual feedback (use the Browse Feedback button if you need help structuring your feedback with a template)

  5. Preview your feedback before sending to prevent accidental sending

  6. Click to send the feedback

After the feedback is sent, you'll see exactly who can see the feedback.

Ask for Feedback About a Person

You can ask for feedback about yourself or someone on your team. This is for feedback that is not part of a 360 review.

Steps to ask for feedback about a person

  1. Click the + button in the feedback inbox

  2. Complete the feedback card:

    • Set Topic: Choose the context for your feedback request (for example, asking about yourself or someone on your team)

    • Add Respondents: Choose who you'd like to ask and who can see the responses (you can edit this even after the request is sent)

    • Add Subject: Give your feedback request a title

    • Customize Questions: Add your questions (type your own or browse templates)

  3. Click Preview & Send

  4. Review your questions before sending the request

After the request is sent

Click on the feedback card to see submitted responses. You'll see who has completed your feedback request (shown as a fraction like ⅘).

Use the More Actions menu in the upper right corner for additional options:

  • Cancel further responses

  • Remind respondents

  • Edit recipients

  • Share with others

  • Re-use the questions

  • Print responses

  • Export as CSV

Ask for Feedback About Something Else

Use this option to ask for feedback about topics not covered by the standard options (yourself, someone on your team, or a meeting).

What you can ask about

  • A specific project

  • Someone not on your team

  • General team input (like lunch preferences)

  • Any other topic

Steps

  1. Click the + icon in the feedback inbox

  2. Select Ask about something else

  3. Add what you're asking about in the topic field

  4. Choose an appropriate emoji (the default book emoji can be changed to match your topic)

  5. Add the people you'd like to ask

  6. Add a subject and your questions

  7. Click Preview & Send

Note: If asking about someone not on your team, the process is the same but notifications will be different.

Ask for Anonymous Feedback

Sometimes it's better for feedback to be anonymous. You can request anonymous responses from your team.

Steps to request anonymous feedback

  1. Open the Feedback section from the More menu

  2. Click the + button and select the type of feedback you want to ask for

  3. Add your respondents

  4. Check the box for Anonymous feedback

  5. Add the rest of your questions

  6. Click Send

What respondents see

  • The request displays a message at the top indicating it's anonymous

  • When submitting, respondents can preview their feedback and receive a reminder that their feedback is anonymous

What requesters see

The feedback responses are shown without names attached. The requester can see the responses but cannot identify who provided each response.

Create a 360 Feedback Request

360 feedback is a comprehensive way for managers to build a portfolio of feedback on their direct reports and encourage growth. It gathers feedback from multiple perspectives: the person themselves, their manager, their peers, and their direct reports.

Steps to create a 360 feedback request

  1. Open the Feedback section from the More menu

  2. Click the blue plus sign at the top of the feedback panel

  3. Select 360 feedback

  4. Choose templates for each type of respondent:

    • Self assessment

    • Manager assessment

    • Peer feedback

    • Direct report feedback

These templates determine the questions each group receives. You must select a pre-existing feedback template for each group.

  5. Add the subject (the person the feedback is about) and their teammates

Fellow will automatically suggest people including their manager and direct reports. You can only send the types of feedback you selected templates for in the previous step.

  6. To gather feedback about multiple people, click Add another report. Each batch will be independent but share the same questions.

  7. Click Preview & send to confirm who will have visibility and who is receiving what

  8. After sending, the request appears in your main feedback inbox. Click the request to see responses from each group.

Troubleshooting

  • You can only ask for 360 feedback about a direct report or someone under you in your org tree

  • If you don't see someone in the dropdown, start typing their name to narrow down the list

Customize Feedback Questions

You can create custom questions or use templates when requesting feedback.

Ways to customize questions

Type your own questions

Write any question you'd like and select the response format:

  • Star scale rating

  • Short answer (text)

  • Single answer (multiple choice)

Personalize with the user's name

Use the placeholder {{user}} to insert the subject's name. This is helpful when building reusable feedback templates.

Browse templates

Click the Browse Templates button to apply pre-existing feedback templates to your request.

Copy or duplicate questions

Use the duplicate option to reuse questions within the same feedback request.

Reorder questions

Drag and drop questions to change their order. Press and hold the grid icon to move questions around.

Save and reuse questions

You have two options for reusing feedback questions:

Option 1: Save as template while drafting

  • Select Save as template while creating your feedback request to save your questions for future use.

Option 2: Reuse questions from a sent request

  1. Open a previous feedback request

  2. Click the More actions menu

  3. Select Re-use questions

This is particularly useful for creating consistent 360 feedback templates for multiple direct reports.

Share and Export 360 Feedback

After collecting feedback, you may need to share it with other teams or departments such as human resources.

Print or save as PDF

  1. Open the Feedback section from the left sidebar

  2. Find and click on the feedback card you want to share

  3. Click More actions in the upper right corner

  4. Select Print to print responses or save them as a PDF

Export as CSV

  1. Open the Feedback section from the left sidebar

  2. Find and click on the feedback card you want to export

  3. Click More actions in the upper right corner

  4. Select Export CSV

  5. The file will download automatically

  6. Rename the CSV file to something relevant for easier organization

  7. Import the CSV into your data analysis tool (Excel, Google Sheets, etc.)

Note: You can export both regular and anonymous feedback as CSV files. Anonymous feedback will not include respondent names.

Privacy and Visibility

Fellow takes privacy seriously and makes visibility transparent throughout the feedback process.

How to see who can view feedback

  • A blue banner at the top of each feedback card shows who the feedback is visible to

  • When completing feedback, a confirmation message shows who will see the feedback

  • The author of feedback can add recipients or share with more people after the original request was sent

  • You cannot remove someone who has already completed the feedback (indicated by a lock icon)

Key privacy features

  • Forgot to add someone? You can add recipients after the request is sent

  • Preview feature lets you review feedback before sending to prevent accidental submissions
