1-on-1 meetings are a common practice for managers. If you are starting to use Fellow for your 1-on-1s, we've laid out the basics in this article.
What are 1-on-1 Meetings?
Use 1-on-1 meetings to build great 1-on-1 relationships with your teammates. You can collaborate on meeting agendas, assign to-dos, and track the history of your discussions in one place.
Here you’ll store your relationships with your manager, your direct reports and any other relationships you might have. This could include teammates, or someone in another department, or someone else.
Where can I find my 1-on-1s?
You can find your 1-on-1 meetings by clicking on the Home panel and looking under the 1-on-1 section header. If you have the 1-on-1 meeting scheduled for today, the meeting will also appear under the Today's meetings section of the same Home panel.
What are the features of 1-on-1 meetings?
1-on-1 meetings fall into 2 categories: ones with your manager, and ones with other teammates
1-on-1s Between Manager and Direct Report:
For these 1-on-1s, there will be 1 default notes tab and additional tabs that can be toggled on or off across the top:
Notes: The place for your meeting agenda and notes
Action Items: Toggle on/off a view of past action items created during the 1-on-1
Feedback: You will also have the choice to toggle on a feedback tab with compilations of all the feedback about the direct report
Objectives: You will also be able to add an objectives tab to your meeting if you're on the Enterprise plan or have it as an add-on in the Business plan.
1-on-1s Between Teammates:
These 1-on-1 features are similar. However, they do not have a priorities tab in them:
These 1-on-1 meetings with your teammates are a great place to jot down ideas, have collaborative brainstorming sessions, or even just check-in with a teammate.
What makes a 1-on-1 meeting different than a regular meeting?
Most meetings in Fellow are intertwined with calendar events, so it makes sense to have those notes and calendar events side by side in the meeting view.
However, 1-on-1s are typically not just about the calendar event. Instead, they are more focused on the relationship between 2 people. So besides linking the 1-on-1 note with your calendar event, we also link it with the person in your 1-on-1 section.
Which means that instead of searching through your calendar to find your 1-on-1 notes or trying to remember when you last talked, you can click directly on the persons face in the 1-on-1 section of the Home Panel.
How can I create a new 1-on-1 meeting?
To create a new 1-on-1 meeting, visit the Home Panel and click on the plus icon next to the 1-on-1 header.
This will then prompt you to either invite the team member to use Fellow, or add an existing Fellow user to your section.
When you're first setting up your meeting, we recommend that you link the meeting with a calendar event by clicking on "No event" button int the top right corner of the page.
What happens when a person I have a 1-on-1 with no longer uses Fellow?
If someone you have a 1-on-1 with will no longer be using Fellow, your notes with that person will stay in Fellow. If you no longer wish to see this 1-on-1 listed in your home panel, you can remove it - but don't worry, the notes will still be accessible via the search function!
