Fix a Corrupt Desktop App Installation [Windows]

Resolve crashes and installation issues with the Fellow Desktop app on Windows

If the Fellow Desktop app for Windows is crashing on startup and restarting doesn't fix it, you may need to do a clean reinstall. This process removes Fellow's local data files and lets you start fresh with a new installation.

Follow these steps if you're experiencing repeated crashes at startup, or if a member of the Fellow support team has directed you here.

Step 1: Close Fellow and End All Processes

Before deleting any files, you need to fully close Fellow.

  1. Right-click the Fellow icon in the Windows system tray (bottom-right corner of your screen).

  2. Select Quit or Close.

Note: If you're unable to close Fellow from the system tray, open Task Manager (press Ctrl + Shift + Esc), find all instances of Fellow, and click End task for each one. Check the Startup tab as well and disable Fellow there temporarily.

Step 2: Delete the Fellow Data Folders

You need to delete two folders: %AppData%/Fellow and %LocalAppData%/Fellow.

  1. Press Start + R to open the Run window.

  2. Type %appdata% and press OK.

  3. Find the Fellow folder and delete it.

Note: If Windows says the file can't be deleted because it's still in use, go back to Task Manager and make sure all Fellow processes have been ended before trying again.

Step 3: Restart and Reinstall

  1. Restart your computer.

  2. Download and install the latest version of Fellow from the Windows download page.

Once the installation is complete, open Fellow and sign in. Your data is stored in the cloud, so your notes and meetings will still be there.
